Since the majority of the people who use this guide are newcomers, it is better for people to use the Complete Softmod Guide because:
People gain knowledge and experience of where the files can be obtained to modify a Wii. Learn the purpose of the programs used to modify a Wii (thus if something messes up down the road, they might actually know how to fix it ![]() But for those too lazy to learn and want a near automated softmod, continue on below ![]() CompleteSoftmodGuide

(If you own a Wii from the Korean region, please use Modmii instead. You can check this by looking at the serial number and making sure there isn't a KM in it. If there is, you can brick by updating to 4.2.) ↓ Actual guide below ↓ Foreword This guide was made as an aid for those experienced in the Wii hacking scene. It does not tell you what each & every program does, just a straight up list of directions. The method of obtaining the files needed for this mod isn't completely legitimate obviously because it contains copyrighted materials [aka WAD files.] It works, you know where you get the files. If you can follow instructions, go for it. Updates: 3/11/2012 *Updated d2x cIOS to v8 (only using 56 in 249 and 57 in 250). *Changed hermes cIOS's inline with what people were asking for. *Updated hackmii installer to 1.0. *Updated meta.xml files for new hbc. 12/11/2011 *Updated d2x cIOS to v7 (same bases). *Added back cMIOS for those people that have older Wii's that can play disc backups. *Updated Wii Mod Batch to v3.0 (fixes issues for the people with Macs that create additional linker files and get failed messages). 9/6/2011 *Updated Wii Mod Batch to v2.9 (now shows why a wad didn't install instead of crashing). 8/18/2011 *Added a section to describe how to use Letterbomb for people without the games needed to mod 4.3 in all regions. 7/27/2011 *IOS 236 is now installed as a wad via Wii Mod Batch (unofficial) (the settings file needs to be in /apps/wiimodbatch). Cuts down one more program/step. *Got rid of seperate 4.2 and 4.3 mod packs, the files can co-exist, and only one extra harmless wad (IOS58) is installed on 4.3. Disclaimer Code Dumps [DSI errors] & Black Screens experienced throughout the guide, if any, are random & harmless. Simply hold the power button for 4 seconds & try again. I cannot stress this enough, people need to read this one word at a time Guide is completely offline. Required - SD card [preferably non-sdhc] with around 700mb free [600mb for NAND backup, 100mb everything else] - PC with internet connection & SD card reader. - Wii [to mod] *PLEASE REMOVE ALL UNNEEDED PERIPHERALS* If you are on firmware 4.3, you will need one of the following games, or you can use Letterbomb which is described below. - Super Smash Brothers Brawl, All Wii's. - Yu-Gi-OH 5D's Wheelie Breakers, All Wii's. - Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World, All Wii's. - LEGO Batman, All Wii's. - LEGO Star Wars, US/Europe Wii's ONLY. - Lego Indiana Jones, US/Europe Wii's ONLY. Objectives: 1] Update your wii to the latest "homebrew friendly" firmware (If on <4.2 currently). 2] Install the Homebrew Channel & Bootmii onto your wii. 3] Restore the trucha bug on your Wii by installing a patched IOS236. 4] Install custom IOS 222[38] & 223[37-38] [Hermes v4], 202[60] & 224[57] [Hermes/Rodries v5.1], 249[56] & 250[57] [Waninkoko v21 d2x v8] to your wii. 5] Install custom MIOS to enable Gamecube backups via disc. 6] Install brick protection via Priiloader, and earlier System Menu IOS's. 7] Allow your Wii to play Wii backups through a backup loader, directly from the disc channel, &/ or via usb (these are not included). 8] Play Wiiware & Virtual Console games off the sd card menu. Find System Menu Version For the true newbies. Don't be so hard on yourself, we all start somewhere ![]() Update to 4.2 Follow this if you're on a firmware <4.2, it will update all of your IOS's & System menu to the latest "homebrew friendly" firmware.

Setting up the SD Card
1st download the precompiled link up42x.zip for your region by emailing simplisticmod@gmail.com (you should get a reply with links in a few seconds). FORMAT your SD card. Extract the "up42x.zip" & put the files onto a SD card & insert the SD card into the Wii. Update to 4.2 If you already have The Homebrew Channel installed for whatever reason, you can skip Bannerbomb and run YAWM Multimod Batch directly. Run bannerbomb by going to the Settings, Data Management, Channels, SD Card & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf (If it freezes or nothing shows up, try another version of bannerbomb.) This runs YAWM Multimod Batch, and will start installing all the wads to get your wii to 4.2! You can then erase everything from the up42x.zip & setup everything from the mod.zip Advance to the Modify 4.2/4.3 section. Modify 4.2/4.3 The actual hacking guide for 4.2/4.3. After Modding Read here for instructions on how to use The Homebrew Channel & play backup games. At this point your almost done. You should be downloading the latest homebrew applications & setting them up on your SD Card so they can be launched via the Homebrew Channel. Wiibrew.org is a website that has information on the latest apps. For downloading applications, you should: 1] Download Homebrew Browser to get many popular apps & keep them up to date, but this is an online only application 2] For those without internet, check out this list of Homebrew applications & get the latest emulators, media players, & utilities. After downloading Wii homebrew applications, you should get a file with the extension .dol. A .png & .xml could be included too. They provide information about the application. ![]() This file is an application that can be executed through the Homebrew Channel. This boot.dol goes in a custom named folder in the ![]() For HBC to read your SD correctly, your card must be structured SD:apps/application name/boot.dol Here is an example of the ![]() ![]() In every folder, there is a boot.dol, icon.png, & meta.xml. For playing your disc backups, you should either: 1] Download NeoGamma & set it up on your SD card. 2] Download Softchip & set it up on your SD card. 3] Download DARKCORP for playing games directly through the disc channel. If you have a very new Wii & it fails to run DVD backups, you may have a drive with the new D3-2 chipset. They are incapable of reading dvd's of any sort. It can still pla games via USB loaders with a hard drive or external USB DVD Drive. For playing your backups off a USB hard drive, check out the extra setup for USB loading to learn about the different USB loaders & how to set up your Hard Drive correctly to install games. Also, if you would like extra help setting up your hard drive for backups, check out Modmii! Credits:

How To Softmod (Hack) Your PSP
This guide will show you how to softmod your PSP if it has a firmware that's 6.60 or below.
ORIGINAL POST: http://gbatemp.net/topic/293978-how-to-softmod-hack-your-psp/
What do I need to hack my PSP?
- A PSP of the right firmware/model (see the FAQ).
- If it's a 1000/2000/3000/E1000, a Memory Stick (the Go has it's own internal storage).
- Some way to read the memory stick or internal storage. The PSP itself will connect to the computer through a USB cable with the appropriate ends (generic USB-Mini for the 1000/2000/3000/E1000, and a special one for the Go). If it doesn't automatically connect when you plug it in (there's a setting for that) you can go to the very left-hand menu and there's the USB connection option. Once it's connected the PSP will act as a memory stick reader (or let you access the Go's internal storage).
If you are currently on an older CUSTOM/HACKED firmware...
If
you are currently on an older custom firmware (such a 5.x or 3.x) then
you might just be able to run an official update and jump right to the
hacking steps, but if the PSP gives an error when you try then you will
need to flash-install a clean original firmware before you can upgrade
to 6.20 or 6.60. This is done via Hellcat's Recovery Flasher and a copy
of the original firmware to flash.
A video of the process is located here.
- Download Hellcat's Recovery Flasher, and add the RECOVERY folder to your PSP's GAME folder.
- Download Official Firmware 5.00, rename EBOOT.PBP to 500.PBP, and stick it in the root of your memory stick.
- Run Hellcat's, and hold L+R+Select while it's loading. When it runs it may warn you if you have GAME plugins enabled, and it will disable them, simply run Hellcat's again.
- When it loads, confirm your choice to enter advanced mode.
- At the second (garbled) warning, Select I AGREE, now take me to the program!
- At the main menu, make sure that Target FW is on 5.00, then go down to /! Install clean ORIGINAL FW (DANGEROUS!!!)
A video of the process is located here.
Q - Permanent or temporary hack, what's the difference?
A - The main functional difference is that with the temporary version, you need to run a 4-second or so file to re-hack the PSP after each time you shut it down. Some people may care, others may not.
Q - 6.20 or 6.60, what do I choose?
A - The main difference to be concerned with is the compatibility of the permanent patch.
- 6.20's permanent patch will work on every PSP model that 6.20 can be installed on.
- 6.60's permanent patch only works on the 1000 models and earlier 2000 models. If you have a 2000 and you're not sure if it's an early or late model, you can try the permanent patch, and if it tells you it's not supported you can downgrade to 6.20 and use the 6.20 permanent method (or if 6.20 is not supported, stick with the default temporary version).
6.20 PRO (permanent) installation.
If you are not already on Official Firmware 6.20...
Now to install the 6.20 hack!
- Download 6.20 official firmware (for PSP 100X/200X/300X) or (for PSP Go).
- Copy the UPDATE folder to /PSP/GAME/. If the eboot.pbp file is not in a folder named "UPDATE", then re-name (or create) the folder.
- Launch the 6.20 update on your PSP, and tell it to update.
Now to install the 6.20 hack!
- Download 6.20 PRO (Latest Version).
- Copy the folders in there straight onto your PSP's memory stick. If you're asked to merge the folders, say yes.
- Run the 6.20 PRO Updater on your PSP and when it runs press X to install and launch the temporary 6.20 hack.
- After the PSP restarts, run the 6.20 PRO Permanent Patch.
- Press X once to choose to install, then press X again to choose to test it.
- If your PSP successfully rebooted after the test then it worked, run the permanent patch again, but this time press X and then Circle to install.
If your PSP did not successfully test, remove your /seplugins/ folder from your memory stick and try again (because not all 5.x plugins work on 6.x).
6.60 PRO (temporary or permanent) installation
If you are not yet on 6.60...
Now to install the hack!
- Download 6.60 official firmware (for PSP 100X/200X/300X) or (for PSP Go).
- Place the UPDATE folder into /PSP/GAME/ on your memory stick (or the Go's internal storage). If the eboot.pbp file is not in a folder named "UPDATE", then re-name (or create) the folder.
- Run the 6.60 update on your PSP and allow it to install.
Now to install the hack!
- Download 6.60 PRO (Latest Version)
- Copy the folders in there straight onto your PSP's memory stick (or Go's internal storage).. If you're asked to merge the folders, say yes.
- Run 6.60 PRO Updater on your PSP, and press X to install.
- Your PSP should restart into hacked mode. This will last until your PSP is shut fully off (sleep mode is okay). To hack it again quickly, run the Fast Recovery to get back into 6.60 PRO.
- (OPTIONAL) To test or install the 6.60 permanent patch, run the CIPL Flasher on your PSP. Again, remember that this only works on the PSP 1000 and earlier 2000 models.
Downgrading a 6.60 PSP to 6.20
If
your PSP is on 6.60 right now but has had 6.20 or less installed at any
point in it's life (meaning it's a 07g motherboard line or below) then
you can use this to downgrade it to 6.20. If your
PSP came with 6.60 installed out of the box then you can still
downgrade, but there's potential risks. While workarounds have been
found for issues that arise, you should still be careful about doing
this if your PSP came with 6.60 out of the box.
- Download ChronoSwitch Downgrader.
- Go into the /Chronoswitch_version(x)/ folder in the download, and drag the PSP folder onto your memory stick. If you're asked to merge the folders, say yes.
- Download 6.20 official firmware (for PSP 100X/200X/300X) or (for PSP Go).
- Take the EBOOT.PBP file from the 6.20 firmware and put it in the /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/ folder on your memory stick, creating it if needed. For the Go it needs to be on the internal flash, not the M2 card.
- Run the Chronoswitch Downgrader on your PSP to start the process, and it will use the official Sony update process to "update" you to 6.20.
Updating PRO to the latest version.
- Launch the version of the PRO updater/installer that's currently installed and press Triangle to uninstall it. If you have a permanent patch installed (the 6.60 cIPL patch or the 6.20 vshmain.prx patch) run the installer for that to uninstall too, if needed.
- Run the new installer for the latest version of PRO, press X to install.
- If you want the permanent patch again, just run it again.

7/4/2012 - Fixed some wording in the 6.20 perm line.
7/3/2012 - Finally added the 6.60 permanent and downgrade methods since it seems the major issues with those were fixed.
6/16/2012 - Fixed 6.20 PRO-C link, fixed the folder names.

Types of hacks for the 360
so you want to hack your 360.
Have no idea where to start?
This thread should give you a general idea on what you can do with your 360.
This type of hack is most conventional for most people.
In short:
You flash your DVD drive with a custom firmware.
This will allow you to play back upped games from a DVD.
Currently all Phat 360's are hackable.
Slim 360's are hackable but require either a replacement PCB (expensive), a small hardware hack or a risky hack that involves drilling into the controller chip.
Liteon 1175, Hitachi 0500/0502 aren't hackable (Liteon 1175 will be hackable by PCB replacements)
This is pretty much the same as DVD flashing but it has a few advantages.
Mainly:
You can use an external HDD to store your game ISO's on.
It also allows you to play mulleted xbox 1 games*.
However this requires you to purchase some hardware.
Currently all Phat 360's are hackable.
Pretty much every Slim 360 is hackable for it but some drives require extra steps.
Liteon 1175 and Hitachi 0500/0502 both need you to RGH your 360 to obtain your CPU key + FCRT.bin in order to emulate the drive.
This one is sweet for people with REALLY old 360's or people that just bought one.
You can basically play every game you want.
Xbox 360, Xbox 1, XBLArcade and XBLindie (as of Dashlaunch 3.0) as well as run Linux distro's and homebrew.
However you cannot connect to XBLive ever!
If you want to jTAG your 360 then you'll have to make sure it's on Dashboard 2.0.7173.0 OR LOWER.
Any dashboard above will not work and you'll need to refer to the RGH*.
Added to a jTAG you'll probably want to prevent it from dieing quickly so setting the fans to a minimum of 70% in FSD*
As of 12-09-12 the XeLive plugin is detectable by MS and will lead to a banned KV*.
This is pretty much the same as the jTAG.
However it has some differences.
First of all this hack is achieved with a special modchip that glitches the 360's boot process.
Then once it's "glitched" you can do everything a jTAG can do.
You can optionally also install a couple of switches and set up a so called Dual NAND.
This will allow you to retain your Live enabled state of the 360.
If you want to RGH your 360 then you'll have to make sure your Xbox is on dash 2.0.14719.0 OR LOWER.
Xboxes that are great to glitch: Opus, Falcon, Jasper/Kronos, Trinity, Corona/Corona V2.
Xboxes that also work are Xenons and Zephyrs but their a pain to glitch and some don't glitch at all.
Currently the same rules apply to both jTAG and RGH machines regarding XBLive and the fans.
So in short:
You can hack both a Phat and Slim 360 with all of the above if it's on dashboard 14719 or lower.
If you're on 15574 then you can only chose the way of the ODDE and DVD flashing.
Explanation of some of the words.
Mulleted xbox 1 games - This is a special method to convert normal Xbox 1 games to 8.4 GB ISO images playable on flashed/ODDE consoles.
ODDE - Optical Disc Drive Emulator, This is a small piece of hardware that emulates the 360's DVD drive.
KV - This is your KeyVault, it holds all the data of the 360 such as your DVD Key, CPU Key and various other data regarding your consoles region and settings.
RGH - Reset Glitch hack
FSD - This is FreeStyle Dash, a neat little replacement dash that resembles the old NXE* from Microsoft.
It has a lot to offer.
NXE - This is the second dashboard from MS, (dashboards 8489 to 9199)
MS - Microsoft.
Phat - Original Xbox 360.
Slim - Second 360 version.

Have no idea where to start?
This thread should give you a general idea on what you can do with your 360.
DVD flashing.
ODDE*.
Liteon 1175 and Hitachi 0500/0502 both need you to RGH your 360 to obtain your CPU key + FCRT.bin in order to emulate the drive.
jTAG.
RGH.
This is pretty much the same as the jTAG.
However it has some differences.
First of all this hack is achieved with a special modchip that glitches the 360's boot process.
